Music Sprouts Access Program – est 2023
The Music Sprouts Access Program started in January 2023 in Storms River Village, Tsitsikamma. It was founded by local musicians and music teachers Chanel and Michaela Gardner who wanted to share the joy that music brings them with children in their community. The program gives local children access to music education, completely free of charge. Today, over 70 children from Storms River and the surrounding areas are part of the program, receiving lessons on violin, guitar, percussion, pennywhistle and voice.
Children move through the program based on commitment, dedication and attitude.
Music Sprouts is a big part of the community of Storms River Village. The students and teachers have performed at many community events since its inception. At its heart, Music Sprouts is about giving children the chance to learn, grow, and experience the joy of music together. Seeing the students progress from their first notes to performing for the village – and even auditioning for provincial orchestras – shows what’s possible when a community backs its young musicians.
